A Pig's Tale: Hog Named 6-7 Granted Clemency by Miami Dade County Leader.
Although not quite at the equivalent scale as pardoning festive fowl, but the mayor of Miami-Dade experienced a ceremonial pardon event this week by formally pardoning the life of a pig named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava executed the holiday gesture at the Cuban-themed Latin Cafe 2000 in the core of Miami’s iconic Little Havana neighborhood.
“The swine has done no wrong. Clemency is justified for her. She has committed zero crimes,” Levine Cava said in a speech with inescapable allusions to the sheer volume of executive clemencies issued from the start of the beginning of a current administration.
“Unless you count eating six or seven apples per day,” Levine Cava continued. “May this pig enjoy a long and happy life free from concern.”
The gathering, either celebrating or rejecting the area's customary feast of consuming swine during the holidays, was founded to mirror the yearly bird sparing at the White House.
The swine, donated by a local firefighter, was given its name from the popular vernacular phrase of young people shouting “six seven” – deriving from a hip-hop line – often for no discernable reason. The phrase became so widespread that a major dictionary recently made “6-7” its 2025 word of the year.
A Future Secured
Six Seven the pig is now scheduled to spend its days at a countryside refuge “far from charcoal and roasting pans”, according to the organizers' announcement.
“The annual pig pardon has become one of our favorite ways to open the festive period,” said the event host, in a decidedly positive message.
“It represents the essence of Miami: joyful, multicultural, and based in heritage that foster togetherness. Annually, we are delighted to mark culture and compassion in a way unique to Miami.”
Attendees enjoyed a meat-free selection of croquettes and Cuban coffee as they toasted Six Seven’s big moment.
