Information Available Regarding the Fatalities of the Bondi Beach Terrorist Incident
At least 16 lives were killed and over 40 sustained injuries when gunmen shot at a Hanukah event at Bondi Beach, an attack local police are describing as a act of terrorism.
According to the most recent information, officials have announced the number of fatalities remains at 16, encompassing one of the alleged attackers. Furthermore, 42 people with injuries were transported to hospital.
The victims are still awaiting officially identified, but authorities state their ages are from 10 and 87 years old.

Eli Schlanger
London-born clergyman Eli Schlanger, 41, was the first to be publicly identified.
Described as a father of five children, he worked as the assistant rabbi at Chabad of Bondi. Family members and friends described him as “vivacious, energetic, full of life and a very kind and sociable person who was dedicated to assisting others”.
“How can a happy rabbi who went to a beach to spread happiness and light, to make the world a better place, lose his life in this way?” a family member said.
Schlanger and his wife celebrated the arrival of their youngest child just a few months ago.
Alexander Kleytman
Alexander Kleytman was also among those killed, as stated by his wife.
She recounted the events leading up to the shooting, explaining they were standing when the gunfire began. “He moved to protect me because he wanted to stay near me,” she said.
The husband and wife were both survivors of the Holocaust, having faced unspeakable terror in their childhood. They had later moved to Australia from Ukraine.
Dan Elkayam
The French foreign ministry have confirmed that French national Dan Elkayam is a casualty.
Publicly, the Foreign Minister declared that France mourned with his family, the Jewish community, and the Australian people.
“This cowardly attack is a new, tragic manifestation of a disgusting rise of hatred against Jews that we must combat,” the statement read.
One Child
A young girl, aged 10 who was rushed to the Sydney Children’s Hospital succumbed to her injuries, authorities stated.
One Israeli Citizen
A national of Israel was a fatality in the incident, as per multiple sources citing the Israeli foreign ministry.
Those Injured
From the 42 people taken to hospitals, many are still under care, with several in critical condition. Those hurt include two police officers who attended the scene.
A wounded man is a bystander who rushed to the scene to confront one of the gunmen. Described as a local hero, he received gunshot wounds but is expected to recover in hospital.
Arsen Ostrovsky
One of those wounded is Arsen Ostrovsky, a community leader. Reports indicate he was injured and underwent treatment in hospital.
He wrote, he recounted the incident as an “horrific scene,” but also noted the response of those who came to assist. He said he believed it was a “miracle” he was alive.
Evan Zlatkis
Evan Zlatkis, a community director, was another casualty in the shooting. He told reporters he heard “dozens and dozens” of shots.
“I thought it was something less lethal, but it penetrated my own skin and into my leg,” he said. “I sustained a gunshot wound. They bandaged me up. I’m ok.”
