Manchester United Set to Secure German Striker Lea Schüller from the Bavarian Giants

Manchester United are on the verge of sealing the deal for prolific Germany forward Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.

A Marquee Signing for the WSL Side

Schüller, who has half a year remaining on her deal, is known as a consistent goal-getter for her club and the national team. Having netted over 100 goals for Bayern and scored 54 times in 82 caps for Germany. This signing is viewed as a major coup for the WSL team.

Departure from Munich has been anticipated since she was seen holding back emotions while applauding the club's fans after a victory over Bayer Leverkusen recently.

Reports in December that the German women's top flight was set to lose one of its leading forwards. Per multiple sources, all the paperwork for the move are now finalised.

Reliable Goal Threat to Strengthen United's Attack

The experienced striker's signing should represent a significant uplift to the team's forward line. She has been remarkably consistent with her finishing in the Bundesliga.

  • For seven straight seasons, up to and including the last term, she achieved at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
  • She won the Golden Boot in 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.

Gathering Steam at Old Trafford

The acquisition of the German international coincides with a period when United seem to be gathering positive momentum.

Their recent on-pitch successes feature securing a place in the Champions League knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a victory in the League Cup quarter-finals.

In the transfer market, the winter break has seen additional business:

  1. The signing of Swedish defender Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
  2. The new deal for Japanese midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, who has become popular figure since joining in 2023.

On the midfielder's new deal, a senior figure commented: “She has become a critical part to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and technical ability allows her and the team to dominate play from central areas.”

Lundkvist, who has arrived from a club in the NWSL, added: “You can feel how much they [United] have progressed in the last few years, competing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and now featuring in the top European competition.”
