19 of the Russian's 21 victories have been earned on hard surfaces

A comeback Medvedev won his initial championship for over two years with victory over opponent Moutet in the competition final.

Medvedev, a ex- top-ranked player, has endured a difficult year, managing just one win at the big events and suffering a meltdown at the New York tournament.

Medvedev's inconsistency on the tennis tour - and struggles with his serve in especial - resulted in him exiting of the top ten and finally splitting with long-time trainer Cervara.

Now training with Johansson and his other coach, Medvedev has gradually improved in the recent weeks - peaking in a closely contested three-set triumph over opponent Corentin Moutet.

This represents his initial championship after the Italian tournament and first on a hardcourt since March of that year.

The win also means the Russian has won twenty-one titles at 21 various events.

"For the first time I'm at a event with my children together, so to win a trophy is particularly special," said tennis professional Daniil Medvedev.

"This championship is in dedication of my child my daughter, because the initial championship I got when my first daughter my daughter was born was for her."

The athlete, the former major winner, had been defeated in his past six title deciders, including in the German tournament earlier this year.

Medvedev's counter-punching strategy and recurring reactions on court had prompted some to doubt if his capacity to play at the elite level was finished.

But the 29-year-old has altered his approach in the last few weeks, attempting to approach the net and perform aggressively, backed up by an improved serve.

He fought back from a deficit in the initial set against the tricky Moutet, winning four of the last five points to take the lead.

The pair traded breaks in the following set before Moutet, striving for his first tour championship, took control to force a final set.

He defended four early break points in a competitive final set before the champion broke to 15 to secure the win.

Appropriately, he clinched the title with a point at the net, with his opponent unable to control a return after over two and a half hours.
