Slot Insists He Feels Secure and Has Liverpool's Backing After PSV Eindhoven Humiliation
The Liverpool head coach conceded that it's understandable for concerns to be raised about his future following a further convincing loss versus PSV Eindhoven.
The Reds endured their 9th loss in twelve matches, representing the team's worst streak since being demoted in the 1953-54 season.
They were taken apart by the Eredivisie title holders on a punishing night at their home ground.
“I am feeling safe, things are alright, I have got plenty of support from above,” the coach stated.
“It's important to change things and secure a win naturally but when you're in a managerial role and not doing well then it's expected that people question you.”
He noted, “I am OK with my role. This isn't the initial instance I've found myself in a challenging situation but it is about time that we turned it around.”
Conversations with Liverpool Hierarchy
Upon being questioned to provide details on his dialogues with the Liverpool hierarchy, the head coach said:
“We talk a lot. They are supportive for the squad and to me and we have those conversations but they aren't calling me constantly each day to say they trust me.”
He mentioned, “In the normal exchanges I perceive the belief. However I've not talked to them after this game yet so it remains to be seen.”
Recurring Failings and Player Response
Slot highlighted familiar weaknesses from his team in their Champions League defeat, namely missed opportunities and conceding too easily.
Meanwhile, midfielder Jones was blunter in his evaluation of the team's situation.
“I don’t have the solutions. Frankly, I don’t. I'm telling that to everybody,” Jones said.
“It's simply unacceptable. I don't have to wait to reflect. I’m past being angry internally. I've reached the stage now where I simply lack the vocabulary.”
He continued, “It's difficult because I play for the club I love. I’m a fan, and I've watched this club all my life.”
“For many years, I haven’t experienced a Liverpool team going through a spell such as this with outcomes so bad.”
Jones concluded, “But we continue to wear the crest on our chest. And until that badge is taken away, we’re always going to fight.”
“Our aim is to get this team back to where it needs to be, show everyone once more what this club is about and why people call it the best team in the planet.”
“At this moment, we’re in the shit and it needs to change.”
