Supporters Urge Arrest of Man Who Seized Ariana Grande
Passionate fans of the pop star are calling for that a person who jumped a barricade and seized the celebrity during Thursday's Wicked: For Good launch be taken into custody or expelled from Singapore.
A viral video shows the Australian man pushing past camera operators and lunging at Grande while the actors walked down a event pathway flanked by fans.
Cast member Cynthia Erivo immediately wrested the stunned actress away from Mr Wen, who was spotted being led away of the premiere by guards.
Mr Wen stated on Instagram Thursday evening that he was "free after being taken in", though court documents showed that he was due to appear on Friday morning. It is uncertain if he was faced legal action.
History of Event Invasions
This is part of a pattern for Mr Wen, who calls himself a "Controversial Figure", has invaded a concert or event. His Instagram account features videos of him disrupting other high-profile occasions, including rushing the platform at the pop singer's Sydney show in recently and in a similar way during The Chainsmokers performance in the same location last December.
"Steps should be implemented enforced against him as this is obviously a legal violation," wrote an Instagram follower, in a message to a video Mr Wen uploaded of his act.
"Oh wow so you do this a lot... how aren't you in jail?" one Instagram user wrote.
Followers Show Disapproval Over the Star's Safety
Many followers accused Mr Wen for "causing further distress" Grande, who had revealed experiencing PTSD after a devastating incident at the finale of her May 2017 performance in Manchester, resulting in the death of 22 people and injuring many.
"After everything she's faced... including the Manchester attack, you considered it entertaining to rush the barrier?" said another comment on Instagram.
Some supporters also criticised guards at the Thursday event for not being sufficiently alert; while some requested online networks to ban Mr Wen's content.
Response and Premiere Information
In footage shared widely, Grande seemed shocked when she was approached by the intruder. Her cast members Michelle Yeoh and Erivo can be seen consoling her while Mr Wen was escorted away by security.
Grande has not commented on the situation, and the rest of the event continued without further issues.
Numerous of attendees had gathered in a mass of green and pink at the Wicked: For Good international debut in a Singapore mall, including a number who had queued for as long as eight hours before it commenced.
The movie, to be launched on 21 November, is the follow-up of a dual adaptation of the acclaimed Broadway and West End show Wicked, which focuses on the unlikely relationship between two contrasting witches.
The show itself is a spin-off of the 1900 story The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.
Grande, who plays the benevolent sorceress Glinda, was adorned in a rosé sequin dress at the gathering while Erivo, who portrays the villainous character, wore a black tube gown embroidered with roses.
They were joined by fellow actor Jeff Goldblum.
The first movie, Wicked, was the most successful motion picture of the previous year in the UK, and scored 10 Oscar nominations, winning a pair for best costume and artistic direction.
