The Two Fatalities Revealed in the Providence Campus Attack as Law Enforcement Continue Search for Killer.

The pair of scholars who died in the weekend's mass shooting in Providence were honored at the start of the week – amid a widespread hunt for their assailant carried on following the discharge by Rhode Island officials of the single suspect detained in connection in the case.

Remembering Ella Cook

Ella Cook, a second-year student from Alabama, was described as “a wonderful, steady, devout, shining presence”, as stated by the Birmingham's Cathedral Church of the Advent, which honored her memory at a gathering on Sunday.

Cook was second-in-command of Brown’s chapter of the College Republicans organization, the group said. Karoline Leavitt also posted words of sorrow publicly, remarking: “There are no words. Remembering her family and friends, especially her parents.”

MukhammadAziz Umurzokov

The other person killed was MukhammadAziz Umurzokov from Uzbekistan, an Uzbek national in his initial year at the renowned school, his family confirmed.

The victim's identification was verified by the foreign office of Uzbekistan.

“He was incredibly kind, funny, and smart. He had big dreams of pursuing a career in neurosurgery and helping people,” Samira Umurzokova, his sister said in a online post.

The Shooting Incident

Nine more persons were injured in the weekend shooting in the school of engineering of Brown’s campus in Providence, during the school’s final exam period.

Authorities said late Sunday that a man aged 24 arrested in a police operation at a hotel about around 27 kilometers from the university earlier in the day was released from custody.

“There is a killer at large,” said the state's top prosecutor, Peter Neronha.

He added, “Sometimes you head in one direction, and then you need to change course and head another way, and that is the current situation over the last day or so.”

Community Anxiety

Providence’s mayor, Brett Smiley, acknowledged: “This will probably generate new worry for our city”.

The shooter opened fire inside a classroom in the building on Saturday afternoon, discharging in excess of 40 shots from a 9mm handgun, a police source reported to the media outlet.

Officers that entered the lodging found two firearms and magazines when the suspect was arrested, as was reported.

Those Hurt

Among those wounded, one student was allowed to go home, mentioned the university president, Christina Paxson. Seven others were in grave but unchanging health, and one was in critical condition, officials reported on Sunday.

Durham Academy, a private academy in the city of Durham, said a recent graduate, Kendall Turner, was among those critically wounded.

Tributes were paid to Cook at a memorial in Birmingham on Sunday. A clergyman said, “She shone as a remarkable, stable, devout beacon not only in her youth... but at Brown University she was a radiant presence in that institution as well.”

A group leader, Martin Bertao, released remarks from the organization. “She was famed for her bold, brave, and kind heart as she served her chapter and other students,” he said.

The US ambassador, Jonathan Henick, said he was “extremely sorrowful” by the passing of Umurzokov in a statement. “We offer our heartfelt sympathies to Mr Umurzokov’s family, friends, and peers and lament the passing of his bright future.”

The fatal shooting at Brown, the country's seventh most historic higher education institution with about over seven thousand undergraduate and postgraduate students, occurred during one of at least 392 mass shootings documented across the United States so far in the current year, according to statistics. That Monday marked the 349th day of the year.
